March 3rd we kicked off the first of 14 cities of the Marketo Revenue Rockstar Road Show. Now, I’ve been speaking and road-showing on the topic of demand generation and revenue marketing for 4 years and I was a user all the way back to 2003/2004 and I’ve had many interesting experiences during that time. One of the most interesting was while on the speaking circuit with OMS in 2009, we rolled into Washington DC for our typical show. My segment was on demand generation and the idea that marketing produces leads and ultimately revenue. I could have been speaking sanscrit for all this group knew what I was talking about! So as we began to plan the Marketo Road Show, I just didn’t know what to expect but was hopeful given the strides the industry has made in the last 2 years.
Well, I was blown away with the level of understanding, expertise and working knowledge of the Austin group AND I think this is going to be true in all cities we visit. This one additional data point convinces me this is going to be THE year of the Revenue Marketer. Now you have to understand what I mean when I use the term Revenue Marketer. It’s the marketer that has a repeatable and predictable practice for impacting top line revenue growth in a company – not someone just executing campaigns. My good friend Jim Lenskold and author of Marketing ROI and tour partner (www.lenskold.com) would say this sample size is not large enough to warrant this statement but I’ve got a bet with him that when all the shows are over, I’m going to be right!
Well, we’ll see. Seems to me the sun (CXOs want it), stars (Sales wants it) and moon (the technology is here) are in alignment and it’s a new day for marketing.
Come see the show if you can and expect a very sophisticated audience!
